Russia, Kazakhstan hold latest talks on nuclear energy cooperation

MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - Rosatom deputy head Nikolai Spassky and Kazakh Deputy Energy Minister Bakhytzhan Dzhaksaliyev have been conducting working consultations on current and future avenues of bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy, the state nuclear corporation said.

The meeting took place on June 3 in Moscow and as part of the talks "progress of work to renew the contractual and legal basis for cooperation was discussed in detail," the statement said.

Similar talks on renewing the contractual and legal basis for cooperation in nuclear energy were held at the end of April.

At the end of June, Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev told Interfax that the state corporation was ready to build a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan but that everything would depend on the Kazakh government. "We would be happy to complete this task, but everything will depend on the Kazakh government," he said, responding to a question on plans to build an NPP.

"There are no agreements yet [with the Kazakh government]", he said.
