Gazprom pledges to build 1108 km of Power of Siberia by year-end - updated data
MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - Gazprom is pledging to build 1108 km of the Power of Siberia gas trunk pipeline to China by the end of 2017, the company said, giving more exact figures in a presentation for a new issue of Eurobonds.
Gazprom Deputy Chairman Vitaly Markelov gave similar information a month ago: "The construction of the pipeline is ahead of schedule. Winter was warm, there was the opportunity to work, contractors are working ahead of schedule. We are planning to build over 1100 km."
The total length of the pipeline's route is 2156 km.
The construction process for pipeline infrastructure includes welding, laying into trenches and soil backfill. Judging by the latest Gazprom information, welding is around 250 km in advance of the plan.
Last week Gazprom head Alexei Miller said regarding the progress of construction: "If we are speaking about the construction volumes that we have now reached, we have completely finished construction of 800 km, 1050 km have been welded and we will therefore build the remaining from the 2156 up to 2019."
Gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia are scheduled to start on December 20, 2019.
