OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs propose Armenian-Azerbaijani summit on Karabakh settlement

YEREVAN. July 12 (Interfax) - The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have proposed that the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan meet in 2017 to discuss the Karabakh conflict settlement, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a report.

"The creation of appropriate conditions for furthering the negotiating process continued to be discussed at the Brussels meeting [between Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov]. Nalbandian indicated the need for stabilizing the situation on the line of contact [between Karabakh and Azerbaijani forces] and said it would be necessary to implement the agreements reached at the summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg," the ministry said.

For their part, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs "asked the foreign ministers to convey to the presidents their proposal of organizing a summit this year," it said.

"It was agreed that the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers would meet again in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York," the ministry said.
