DPR suggests exchanging DNA databanks with Ukraine to identify dead bodies in Donbas
DONETSK. July 12 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has suggested exchanging DNA databanks with the Ukrainian side under the mediation of the United Nations to identify the bodies of persons killed during the Donbas conflict.
"DPR ombudsman Darya Morozova, jointly with a forensic expert and a representative of the Defense Ministry, held a working meeting with Fiona Frazer, the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, today, July 12," a representative of the DPR ombudsman's office told reporters.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of missing persons, those who died as a result of torture by Ukrainian law enforcers, as well as a prisoner swap, the representative said.
"The need to cooperate and work together with the Ukrainian side on exchanging DNA databanks to identify the bodies was emphasized. Documents attesting to the use of illegal interrogation methods by representatives of the Ukrainian law enforcement structures were handed over to the head of the UN Monitoring Mission. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the destructive stance of Kyiv's envoys to the humanitarian subgroup," she said.
