Materials on illegal activities of a number of businessmen handed over to the U.S., no due response ensues - Russian Prosecutor General's Office
MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office said it had handed over important materials on illegal activities of a number of businesspeople, including William Browder, to its colleagues from the United States, but still has not received a proper response. Meanwhile, the foundation suspected of involvement in financial frauds funded the U.S. Democratic Party, according to media.
"In May 2016, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office officially stated its intent to enquiry with the U.S. law enforcement structures, and all materials in several volumes were submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice in July," Denis Grunis, the chief of the Prosecutor General's Office department of international cooperation, told the RT TV channel in an interview.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office also requested the U.S. side to conduct a series of investigative activities, such as questioning of witnesses and seizure of documents, in its territory.
"Unfortunately, response was not they way we expected it. At first, our colleagues said that they were examining the submitted documents. They had assured us they would consider them closely involving various experts. Following repeated reminders and discussions during video conferences and telephone conversations we received a reply in the beginning of this February that the execution of our request has been postponed because it may interfere with a trial under consideration in the U.S.," Grunis said.
However, according to his information, this trial had nothing to do with the submitted files and has been already concluded, he said.
"The request on possible illegal activities by an international group comprised the Ziff brothers, William Browder, and Jamison Firestone in the U.S. remains pending. Evidence necessary for the Russian investigation was not obtained in the U.S.," he said.
The U.S. side did not conduct any checks and investigations on the basis of Russian materials, he said.
