Kazakhstan's Ministry of Education to present Latin-based Kazakh alphabet by yearend
ASTANA. July 26 (Interfax) - By the end of the year, an expert group will come up with the most acceptable Latin-based script for the Kazakh language, Minister of Education and Science of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sagadiyev said.
"As for using the Latin alphabet to write Kazakh, we must be cautious and not make any mistakes. This year, the only thing that needs to be done is adopting an alphabet acceptable for all after discussing all available options," he said at a briefing on Wednesday in Astana.
The next step is developing an action plan to introduce the script for the Kazakh language.
"The special commission has been created, and is now at work," the minister said.
In April, 2017, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed the government to work out a schedule for switching the Kazakh writing system from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet.
