Russia clarifies its stance on anti-Russian sanctions to EU - Envoy Chizhov

MOSCOW. July 27 (Interfax) - Moscow is clarifying to the European Union its stance regarding the U.S. bill allowing new sanctions against Russia and is hopeful to see the EU's reasonable conduct in this situation, Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said.

"This is the point of diplomatic work: to maintain contacts and clarify the approaches and clarify the consequences this [the introduction of additional sanctions] may entail," Chizhov told the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

"The further vector of our interaction with the EU will depend on the EU's conduct," he said.

The bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives "really affects the interests of the European Union," he said.

"That is why they have become so worried. As a matter of fact, the European Union has to pay for its policy of sanctions-related issues," the Russian envoy said.
