Putin expects current situation in Russian-U.S. relations to end

SAVONLINNA. July 27 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said he hopes that Russia and the United States will begin developing their relations in the near future.

"I hope today's state of affairs will end sometime and we will arrive at a different quality of our relations, we will strengthen them, grow them in the interests of the peoples of the United States and the Russian Federation," Putin told a press conference following Russian-Finnish negotiations on Thursday.

Russia and the U.S. have many "common friends" and "just sensible people," and Russia and the U.S. would resolve some global issues much more effectively by working together, he said.
