Moscow expects Afghan authorities to their best to preserve interfaith peace after attack at Shia mosque
MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Moscow has condemned the suicide attack on a Shia mosque in Afghanistan's Herat on August 1, which killed and injured more than 90 people.
"We strongly condemn this inhuman terrorist attack and hope that its organizers will be severely punished. We express our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the dead and wish the injured the soonest possible recovery. We expect the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan authorities to take all necessary measures to preserve interfaith peace in the country," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on Wednesday.
"This has not been the first terrorist attack against Shia Muslims in Afghanistan causing massive casualties among civilian Afghanis. It is obvious that the organizers of such attacks seek to fuel interfaith discord and further escalate the internal political conflict in Afghanistan," it said.
