Russian specialists to take part in int'l flight safety inspections - ICAO secretary general
MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Russian specialists will be actively involved in flight safety inspections carried out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ICAO Secretary General Fang Liu said in an interview published in the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper on Tuesday.
These inspectors, including those from Russian, will first have to undergo special training, pass an exam and receive an ICAO certificate, she said. After this, ICAO can involve them in its checks in order to be able to inspect a large number of states within a shorter period of time, in other words fulfill the task set to the organization by its member states, she said.
Fang believes that such experience will prove useful both to the organization, inspectors themselves and also to states they represent.
This experience will help make inspections more efficient, and such checks will be carried out in line with ICAO standards, the organization's secretary general said. Hopefully, inspectors who will receive an ICAO certificate will also be able to share this experience with their colleagues, she said.
Fang said she was pleased that the Russian side became interested in this prospect, including the possibility for Russian specialists to attend ICAO inspectors courses. The sides are looking forward to productive interaction, she said.
