Georgia should choose future independently, U.S. to keep backing Tbilisi - U.S. ambassador

TBILISI. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Georgia must have an opportunity to exercise free choice with respect to its future, U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly, said on the Imedi television channel while visiting a memorial to Georgia's fallen soldiers in Tbilisi on Tuesday.

The country must have an opportunity to independently choose its future, he said. The United States has promised to continue supporting Georgia in restoration of its territorial integrity and its integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions, Kelly said.

Kelly recalled the statement by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence that the U.S. condemns the occupation and that all sides must find a way to peacefully settle this conflict.
