Amazonas-5 satellite launch from Baikonur may be postponed due to launch vehicle's late shipment - source
BAIKONUR. Aug 14 (Interfax) - The launch of a Proton-M launch vehicle carrying the Amazonas-5 communication satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome may be postponed due to the launch vehicle's late shipment by the manufacturer, a Baikonur source told Interfax.
"In view of the launch vehicle's late shipment, the next commercial launch of a Proton-M launch vehicle coupled with a Briz-M upper stage and carrying the Amazonas-5 communication satellite may be postponed by one and a half weeks," the source said.
It was reported earlier that the launch was scheduled for September 9.
The contract for launching the Spanish satellite has been concluded with International Launch Services Inc. (ILS, Reston, VA, the United States), which holds the exclusive right to market the Proton launch vehicle. ILS is a subsidiary of Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, the developer and manufacturer of the Proton launch vehicle and the Briz-M upper stage.
