Russian deputy defense minister meets with top foreign military officials on Army 2017 sidelines

MOSCOW. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin has held bilateral meetings with senior military officials from Sri Lanka, Burkina Faso and Kuwait on the sidelines of the Army 2017 international military-technical forum, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Lt. Gen. Alexander Fomin held negotiations with Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Burkina Faso Jean-Claude Bouda on the sidelines of the military-technical forum today [on Wednesday]. The parties discussed the current state of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation and prospects for further promoting it at the meeting," the statement said.

The parties also exchanged opinions on key regional security issues facing West Africa and the Sahara and Sahel region, it said.

"Also today Fomin held talks with Chief of Kuwait's Armed Forces General Staff Lt. Gen. Mohammed Khaled Al-Khader. During the meeting, the parties exchanged opinions on bilateral military and military-technical cooperation," it said.

The parties also confirmed that there are prospects for further promoting relations between the two countries, it said.

Fomin also met with Sri Lankan Secretary of State and Deputy Defense Minister Kapila Waidyaratne during the forum to discuss ways to further develop military and military-technical contacts between the two countries.

"The parties reached agreements to broaden ties in military education and send Sri Lankan servicemen to study at military institutions of the Russian Defense Ministry," it said.

Fomin also invited his foreign colleagues to attend international events held by the Russian Defense Ministry, including the International Army Games, the Moscow Conference on International Security and the Army international military-technical forum, it said.
