Kyrgyz special service reports terrorist's detention

OSH. Aug 24 (Interfax) - An international terrorist group member suspected of plotting terrorist attacks has been detained in Kyrgyzstan, the Kyrgyz National Security Committee press service told Interfax on Thursday.

The detainee was identified as a native of the Osh region born in 1994. He was earlier placed on the wanted list as part of a criminal investigation opened on charges of funding terrorist activities, banditry and robbery, the press service said.

"It was established that the detained person was a member of a clandestine terrorist group that received special training in order to fund terrorist activities and implement criminal plans of carrying out terrorist attacks. This underground terrorist group was armed with weapons and ammunition," the press service said.

The suspect has been placed in the committee's pre-trial detention facility and investigators are working to uncover his possible criminal connections in Kyrgyzstan and abroad.

The Kyrgyz special service said earlier that there was a threat of terrorist attack in the country and called on the population to remain vigilant.
