Georgian PM hails Russia's offer of help with fighting fire in Borjomi Gorge
TBILISI. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili hails Russia's readiness to provide help with fighting a wildfire in the Borjomi Gorge.
"Russia has stated its readiness to help us. I think this offer should be welcomed. We have a high level of responsibility to our people and our state. Such an offer should be welcomed due to this high level of responsibility, against the backdrop of difficult relations with Russia," he told reporters in the Borjomi Gorge on Thursday.
The situation in the fire area remained difficult last night, he said. "A three kilometer long road was made in the forest, which helped separate the fire area from the healthy forest. It can be said that the fire flashpoints have now been contained. Six helicopters and 1,500 people are presently working in the active fire area," Kvirikashvili said.
