Donbas ceasefire breaches continue, self-restraint of conflicting sides should be encouraged - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry regrets that the 'school truce' in Donbas has continued to be breached and hopes that the Trilateral Contact Group, the Normandy Four, and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission will urge the conflicting sides to demonstrate self-restraint.

"It is with regret that we have to state the ongoing breaches of the ceasefire and provocative attacks conducted by the Ukrainian army on the contact line," the ministry said in a statement published on its website on Wednesday.

"Hopefully, all efforts will soon be taken in the existent negotiating formats and mechanisms, i.e. the Contact Group, the Normandy Four, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, and the Joint Center for Control and Coordination, to encourage self-restraint of the sides," it said.

The ministry called on Kyiv to ensure "strict implementation of the ceasefire and put an end to provocations on the contact line."

"The process of a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis should not be endangered by irresponsible actions and a chance for a peaceful solution should not be missed," the ministry said.
