Turkmen deputy premier briefs president on economic successes, resigns on health grounds

ASHGABAT. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Byashimmyrat Khodjamammedov, who coordinates financial and economic issues in the government, asked the country's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow to relieve him of his post on health grounds at a government meeting on Thursday.

Before tendering his resignation, the deputy prime minister briefed the president on macroeconomic indicators of the country's development in January-August.

Khodjamammedov said that the macroeconomic results for the aforementioned period confirm stable growth in all sectors of the economy. In particular, GDP grew 6.4%, state budget revenues stood at 12.1 billion manat and budget expenditures at 11.9 billion manat over this period. Wages, social benefits, pensions and stipends were paid in full. The average monthly salary increased 9% as compared with the same period in 2016.

After listening to the report, Berdimuhamedow agreed to grant Khodjamammedov's resignation request and signed the relevant decree.

The president appointed Deputy Prime Minister Orazmyrat Gurbannazarov as Turkmenistan's acting deputy prime minister for the economy, banks and international financial organizations.

Berdimuhamedow also relieved Khodjamammedov of the post of Turkmenistan's representative to the CIS Economic Council and appointed Gurbannazarov as the country's acting envoy to the council.
