Russian military bring humanitarian aid to Syria's Homs province
HOMS (Syria). Aug 4 (Interfax) - The Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria has brought several tonnes of humanitarian aid and organized a medical examination of local residents in al-Qusayr in the Homs province, center spokesman Gennady Konstantinov said.
"We have delivered 400 food care packages here [al-Qusayr]. We have chosen this town firstly because it is situated on the border of the de-escalation area. Secondly, this is a multi-confessional town. Thirdly, it has the only female mayor in the entire Homs province, and we have decided to support her activity with the food supply," Konstantinov said.
The food care packages contain flour, sugar and rice; their weight totals 2 tonnes. The center asked the local administration's assistance to determine which civilians needed the relief most, he said.
While the care packages were being unloaded and distributed amongst the civilians, the center's military medics gave a preventive health check to several dozens of local residents.
