Conditions already exist for UN peacekeepers' introduction in Donbas - Gryzlov
MOSCOW. Sept 5 (Interfax) - Donbas already has the conditions allowing, with Kyiv's good will, for an introduction of UN peacekeepers there, Boris Gryzlov, Russia's representative in the Contact Group on Ukraine, said on Tuesday.
"For a possible introduction of the UN contingent to support and maintain the security of the OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] mission in Donbas, a number of conditions today have already been created. In some areas, the demining work was carried out; in others, the regime of heavy weaponry removal is in place," Gryzlov said commenting to Interfax on Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks about the need for the Russian Foreign Ministry to draft a UN SC resolution on the deployment of blue helmets on the Donbas dividing line.
The initial ten days of the "school truce" have shown that, with the conflicting parties having the good will, the number of shell attacks drops to its lowest, while the level of civilian safety rises, the envoy said.
"Deploying peacekeeping along the contact line is quite possible with Kyiv's good will and is could facilitate a total cessation of the armed phase of the conflict," Gryzlov said.
