DPR reports abrupt escalation in Donbas before contact group meeting in Minsk

DONETSK/KYIV. Sept 6 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has recorded over 40 ceasefire breaches in Donbas over the past 24 hours, and Ukrainian military have recorded over 30 shell attacks by hostile forces.

"Ahead of a meeting in the Minsk format, the situation on the contact line has dramatically intensified. Some 41 ceasefire breaches perpetrated from Ukrainian armed forces positions have been recorded over the past 24 hours," Eduard Basurin of the DPR Defense Ministry said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

A total of 15 populated localities came under fire, he said.

Ukrainian military positions have been shelled 32 times over the past 24 hours, the press center of the Ukrainian special operation in Donbas reported on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

"Of these shell attacks, 20 are described as precise. Enemy forces have not fired mortars or other heavy weapons over the past 24 hours. Our military sustained no losses," the press center said in a statement.
