Positive statements by U.S. Dept of State should be supported by concrete deeds on Russia - Matviyenko

NALCHIK. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Washington's declarations of its wish to put an end to "eye for eye" policies in its relations with Russia can only be welcomed, Russian Federation Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

Moscow is ready for dialogue, but will judge by real deeds, she said.

"I believe such statements can only be welcomed, there is no doubt. It's the right and positive signal from the Department of State, from the U.S. side," Matviyenko told reporters on Friday in Nalchik, where she is now on a working visit.

However, such statements should be supported by concrete deeds, she said.

"When will the illegally seized diplomatic property of the Russian state be returned? What further steps will be taken, friendly or unfriendly? Is the U.S. side ready for dialogue? We have repeatedly said that Russia is ready for dialogue," Matviyenko said.

Russia and the United States have a lot of areas for joint actions and agreements, she said.

"I hope to God that there will be an understanding that stability and peace in the world, not just the quality of our bilateral relations, depend on good cooperation and good interactions between Russia and the United States. Therefore, for now we can only hope, but we will judge by deeds," Matviyenko said.
