Rosatom, French commission study renewable energy cooperation

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The Rosatom state corporation and France's Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) are studying possible cooperation in renewable energy.

CEA Chairman Daniel Verwaerde met with Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev in Cadarache, France, on September 11. They discussed cooperation between CEA and Rosatom in nuclear physics, development of next-generation reactors and other areas.

"In addition to the on-going cooperation in the nuclear field, the CEA and Rosatom currently assessed potential partnerships in the field of renewable energies, for example in energy storage systems," CEA said in a press release.

Likhachev was in Cadarache at the invitation of Bernard Bigot, the director-general of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) now under construction there.
