Stage 1 in construction of Caspian flotilla bases in Dagestan to be completed by 2019 - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The first stage of the construction of Caspian Flotilla bases in Kaspiysk (Dagestan) will be completed in 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The first stage of the construction of the flotilla's bases is due to be completed in 2019," the ministry said.

The announcement was made by the Southern Military District command during Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov's working trip to Dagestan, the ministry said.

"Russia's first deputy defense minister discussed the development and modernization of Caspian Flotilla infrastructure assets and the construction of new ones, including in Kaspiysk," the ministry said.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, the District's Troops Commander Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, Caspian Flotilla Commander Rear Admiral Sergei Pinchuk, and the heads of the central military commands of the Russian Defense Ministry.

The meeting resulted in a decision to set up a body to organize flotilla infrastructure development, to be led by Deputy Defense Minister Ivanov, the ministry said.
