Zyuganov outraged by Trump statement on readiness to destroy N. Korea

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - The statement by United States President Donald Trump about his readiness to "destroy" North Korea is a challenge to the whole world, Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said.

"When Trump spoke yesterday and said, if something [happens], we will level North Korea to the ground, firstly, it's unacceptable for the leader of a country such as the U.S.," Zyuganov said on Wednesday during a meeting between the leadership of his faction and the Chinese delegation.

Zyuganov said Trump's words are "secondly, a challenge to the whole world, because every conflict on the Korean Peninsula will inevitably involve all neighbors: Russia, China, Japan, and America."

"Everything needs to be done to actively pursue diplomatic policies to resolve this problem. There is no military solution," Zyuganov said.

He also said he would vote in the United Nations against sanctions on North Korea.

Donald Trump said at the UN General Assembly that the United States was patient with North Korea, but that if the U.S. has no choice, it will fully destroy North Korea.
