Russian Justice Minister meets with ECHR president, CoE secretary general in Strasbourg
MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov has met with European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) President Guido Raimondi and Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland to discuss aspects of mutual relations, the Russian ministry said on its website on Monday.
"Today, meetings were held in Strasburg with participation of Russian Justice Minister A. Konovalov, ECHR President G. Raimondi and Council of Europe Secretary General T. Jagland. New Russian Representative to ECHR and Deputy Justice Minister Mikhail Galperin [appointed by presidential decree in May 2017] was officially introduced to Raimondi," the ministry said in a statement.
During the meetings, the sides "discussed, in a constructive manner, the current issues relating to the goal of ensuring efficient operation of the European system of the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the implementation of international standards and ECHR best practices in the legal system of the Russian Federation, and the interaction between the Russian authorities and the institutions of the European Court and the Council of Europe", the Russian Justice Ministry said.
