MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax) - The Russian Agriculture Ministry is planning to allocate up to 2 billion rubles this year as compensation to farmers for losses from emergency situations.

"Unfortunately, this year has been rather difficult. States of emergency have been announced in 16 areas of the country," Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev told reporters.

He said that total area of crop failure was around 200,000 hectares.

"The amount of compensation that we are expecting this year is about 2 billion rubles," he said. "I really hope that we will be able to pay regions in good time so that they can further progress and compensate these losses."
