Ferrous metals shipments on Russian railways up 5.9%, coal 9.9% in 8M

MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Railways (RZD) network carried 64.06 million tonnes of ferrous metals in January-September, 5.9% more than in the same period of last year, the company said in materials seen by Interfax.

Domestic shipments were up 8.5% year-on-year to 35.09 million tonnes.

International shipments grew 3% to 28.9 million tonnes. Shipments via ports decreased 3.5% to 18.95 million tonnes and shipments via border crossings rose 17.9% to 10.02 million tonnes.

Exports shipments declined 1.2% to 24.23 million tonnes and imports jumped 41% to 3.7 million tonnes. Transit shipments were up 4.6% to 1.01 million tonnes.

Coal shipments rose 9.9% year-on-year in January-September to 289 million tonnes. Domestic shipments inched up 0.6% to 122.29 million tonnes. International shipments rose 17.9% to 166.7 million tonnes.

Imports grew 10.6% to 19.1 million tonnes and exports were up 18% to 143.5 million tonnes.
