Lavrov reiterates need for direct dialogue in Syria

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov hailed the unwavering stance of the Syria's Tomorrow opposition faction in the Syrian settlement process.

"We see that your stance has been unwavering during the entire period of the Syria crisis; you have always called for creating the conditions for a direct dialogue and the search for mutually acceptable solutions, which would meet the interests of all Syrians, without exception," Lavrov said at a meeting with Ahmed al-Jarba, the leader of the Syria's Tomorrow opposition faction.

"Your opinion is very important to us in the context of preparations for new meetings in the Astana format and the next round of the Geneva negotiations, which we expect to happen soon enough," Lavrov said.

Al-Jarba said he is ready to continue cooperation with Russia "toward ending the war in Syria and finding a fair and comprehensive political solution to the Syria crisis."

"Our cooperation goes on, including in the war on terrorism in Syria, right up to its eradication," al-Jarba said.
