Syrian parliamentary speaker thanks Russian military for counterterrorism aid

ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 13 (Interfax) - The chairman of the People's Council of Syria, Hammouda Sabbagh, has thanked the Russian military for helping his country fight international terrorism.

"Indeed, Syria is suffering substantially from what is happening today, and the events in our country over the past seven years have caused enormous infrastructure damage, caused people's deaths," Sabbagh said at a meeting with State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Friday.

"We are very grateful to those who are helping us overcome the crisis we face. Our cooperation has particularly strengthened since Russia decided to aid Syrian people in opposing terrorism on their territory," Sabbagh said.

"Here, our particular thanks and gratitude are to the Russian Armed Forces and those Russian servicemen who shed blood to liberate our country from the terrorist yoke," the Syrian politician said.
