Moscow against emergence of new division lines in Middle East - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - There should be no new division lines in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari at negotiations.

"In the course of the normalization of the situation and advancement towards political-settlement negotiations in various parts of the region, it would be extremely important to prevent the appearance of new [division lines] and do away with the old ones, which are based on confessional and ethnic principles," Lavrov said.

"We'd like to discuss the plans and tasks that we, our Iranian friends, our Syrian colleagues, and the entire international community face in the context of the eradication of international terrorism in your country and in Syria," he said.
