Baghdad set to broaden multifaceted cooperation with Russia - foreign minister

MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said he expects economic, political, and security relations with Russia to strengthen.

"We are still hoping to strengthen relations with our friends and strategic partners in Russia, as we believe that Iraqi-Russian relations have attained a fair level in the sphere of the economy, politics, and security," al-Jaafari said at a press conference on Monday following negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"After Iraq turned the page of the struggle with terrorism and achieved success in the international arena - I mean that this is the success not just of Iraq, but also of all countries that have suffered from terrorism - our current task is to set the wheel of economic development in motion again," al-Jaafari said.
