CSTO, ASEAN could collaborate to contain spread of terrorism to Asia Pacific region - Shoigu
CLARK (The Philippines). Oct 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has urged the member countries of ASEAN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to coordinate more closely the activity of their defense departments.
"I believe it is important to start efficient cooperation between the CSTO and ASEAN. A key area of their joint work could be the prevention of international terrorism from spreading, in particular, to countries of the Asia Pacific region," Shoigu said at the fourth conference of defense ministers of ASEAN member countries and dialogue partners (ADMM-Plus).
He also called for "closer coordination of activities between defense departments of ADMM-Plus countries and ASEAN partners, above all the Shanghai Cooperation Organization."
