Matviyenko may visit North, South Koreas in 2018

MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said she has been invited to visit North and South Korea and will probably pay these visits next year.

"I have been invited to pay official visits to both South and North Koreas. Perhaps, we can combine them next year; we are thinking about this possibility," Matviyenko told reporters on Wednesday.

Russia keeps making efforts for stabilization on the Korean Peninsula, it is interacting with "South and North Korea and the United States via diplomatic channels, via heads of state and their assistants," and at the parliamentary level, Matviyenko said.

"Of course, we will carry on our contacts. Today I have written a letter to the head of the North Korean delegation pertaining to the outcome of negotiations [held on the sidelines of the recent IPU Assembly in St. Petersburg], as well as to South Korea," Matviyenko said.

"We will be using every tool to pool efforts and promote the resumption of negotiations, which will stabilize the situation on the Korean Peninsula," she said.
