Shoigu tells Qatari emir of his Philippines visit, situation there

DOHA. Oct 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has held talks with the Qatari head of state, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during Shoigu's official visit to the country.

The two discussed global and regional security issues, an Interfax-AVN correspondent reported.

In particular, the emir asked about the situation in the Philippines, which Shoigu visited just before arriving in Doha.

Shoigu informed the sheikh of Philippine authorities' efforts to fight terrorist groups operating within the country.

Shoigu was on an official visit to the Philippines on October 23-25. There, he attended a fourth conference of defense ministers from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and dialogue partners.

He also held a number of bilateral and multilateral talks with foreign counterparts. Shoigu also signed an intergovernmental agreement on military-technical cooperation with the Philippines during the visit.
