Deputy's bodyguard killed in Kyiv explosion was policeman, 5 people hurt - Interior Ministry

KYIV. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Five people were hurt and one died in the explosion near the Espreso television channel's office in the Solomianka district of Kyiv, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's communication department said in a statement on its Facebook page early on Thursday morning.

"Five people, among them parliament deputy Ihor Mosiychuk, were hurt in the tragedy. The deputy's bodyguard, a 30-year-old officer from a special police regiment, died from his injuries," the ministry said.

A task force and a bomb squad are working on the scene.

A criminal case has been opened on charges of terrorism.

Mosiychuk, a Verkhovna Rada deputy and Radical Party member, was hurt in the explosion on the evening of October 25. Policy expert Vitali Bala, who was standing near the deputy when the explosion occurred, also suffered an injury. The bodyguard died at a hospital.
