Atambayev calls for improving interaction between parliament majority, opposition

BISHKEK. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has met with the new parliament speaker, Dastan Jumabekov, a presidential spokesperson told Interfax on Thursday.

"Atambayev said at a meeting with Jumabekov that he expects the parliament to continue contributing to the stability of the national political system alongside the development of a constructive attitude in the parliament's work and improvement in the interaction between the majority coalition and the parliamentary opposition," the spokesperson said.

Atambayev commented on the special role of the parliament in the implementation of the national long-term development strategy and important reforms in every sphere of life, including socio-economic growth, an improved business climate, and the protection of human rights and freedoms, the spokesperson said.

Jumabekov, 40, was elected parliament speaker on Wednesday after Chynybai Tursunbekov stepped down.
