Iraq very promising partner for Russia - Kosachyov

MOSCOW. Oct 26 (Interfax) - The problems experienced by Iraq should be solved without any foreign interference in the internal affairs of that country and in accordance with its constitution and international law, the Chair of the Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee, Konstantin Kosachyov, told a delegation from the Iraqi House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee at a meeting in Moscow.

"The principled stance of Russia is that we absolutely respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq. We are convinced that any problems confronted by Iraq should be solved by Iraq itself, without any external interference, on the basis of the Iraqi constitution and international law," Kosachyov said.

Iraq is a key and highly promising partner for Russia, he said.

Several Russian companies are interested in doing business in Iraq, Kosachyov said.

"Russian investment in the Iraqi economy is estimated at $8 billion-$10 billion. On the other hand, the unrealized profit in cooperation projects which had to be shut down over the past 15 to 20 years is approximately the same sum, according to our estimates," he said.
