Russian industry and trade minister Manturov visiting U.S., planning meetings with local business

MOSCOW. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov is on a working visit in New York, the ministry's spokesperson said in a statement.

"During the visit the minister will make a speech at an annual meeting of the U.S.-Russian Business Council," the statement said.

He is also planning to hold a number of business meetings with U.S. business representatives.

In the first quarter of this year, U.S. direct investment in Russia stood at $335 million, the statement said. U.S. business investments went into processing sectors, mineral production, retail and wholesale, car repair, transport and communications, financial sector, real estate transactions, services rental and provision.

"U.S. investors are showing particular interest in cooperating with Russian regions that have rich mineral resources and clusters of chemical, metallurgical, aerospace, car and food production enterprises," the statement said.

Among companies continuing to invest in Russia despite sanctions and problems in bilateral relations are Boeing, Ford, Pfizer and General Electric.
