Israel pleased with cooperation with Russia on Syria - ambassador

MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax) - Israel is pleased with cooperation with Russia on Syria, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Gary Koren told Interfax.

We are very pleased with cooperation with Russia on Syria, Koren said.

He noted that the Israeli opinion corresponded to the real state of bilateral relations in regard to Syria.

A number of incidents have taken place between Israel and Syria. For instance, Israeli artillery shelled Syrian army positions on October 19 after a number of stray shells coming from Syrian territory fell on the Israeli-held part of the Golan Heights.

According to the Israeli press, the Syrian shells hit a deserted area and did not do any damage.

Prior to that, the Israeli Air Force hit a Syrian air-defense battery, which opened fire at Israeli military planes flying over Lebanon. The planes returned fire and, according to Israel, destroyed the battery.

The Israeli military command said that it had informed Russia of the Israeli Air Force's strike in real time.
