Russian communists expecting WPK delegation at Russian Revolution centenary celebrations
MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax) - A Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) delegation will participate in celebratory events marking the Russian Revolution's centenary, Ivan Melnikov, the first deputy chairman of the Russian Communist Party's (KPRF) Central Committee, said.
"Of course, our friends from the Workers' Party of Korea are invited and will participate in events on the occasion of the centenary of Great October. That's appropriate and logical," Melnikov told Interfax on Monday.
"The KPRF and the WRK maintain constant friendly contacts," he said.
The Russian Embassy in North Korea said earlier that Kim Su Gil, the chief secretary of the Pyongyang Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, was leading a delegation, which has departed for Russia in order to attend events marking the Great October Socialist Revolution's centenary, on Monday.
"A Korean party delegation, headed by the Chief Secretary of the Pyongyang Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Su Gil, departed for Russia on October 30 to attend celebrations of the centenary of the Great October Socialist Revolution," the embassy said on its Facebook page.
Kim spoke with Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora, who bade farewell to the delegation before its departure, the embassy said.
A number of events marking the Russian Revolution's centenary will take place in St. Petersburg and Moscow on November 1-8.
