TVEL to sign fuel contract with Uzbekistan for nuclear research reactor - Prikhodko

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - TVEL will sign a contract to produce and supply heat for the VVR-SM nuclear research reactor with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Prikhodko told journalists.

The contract will be signed during Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's official visit to Uzbekistan.

He also said that Rosatom and the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan will sign a memorandum of cooperation for peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

TVEL told Interfax that the research reactor will be operated by the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. The research reactor VVR-SM will be used for research in the fields of nuclear physics, materials science, mineral exposure, the production of radioisotopes for medical and industrial purposes and so forth.
