Putin-Trump meeting could have positive effect on global situation, bilateral interaction on Syria - Klintsevich

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - A meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States could have a positive effect on the bilateral relations, including on the Syrian track, Frants Klintsevich, first deputy head of the Federation Council Defense and Security Committee, said.

"A meeting between the Russian and U.S. presidents, if it goes ahead, could really have a positive influence on the relations between our two countries, on the situation worldwide," Klintsevich was quoted by his press office as saying.

He was commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about a possible meeting with Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the upcoming APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit.

"The U.S. could help Russia, which carries the main burden of fighting international terrorism in Syria, or at least not stand in its way. In short, the two presidents do have something to talk about," Klintsevich said.
