Russia celebrates Military Intelligence Day

MOSCOW. Nov 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian military intelligence officers celebrate their professional holiday on Sunday.

Before the Military Intelligence Day, which is celebrated in Russia on November 5, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said military intelligence officers ensure successful operation of the Aerospace Forces during the operation in Syria.

"I would like to congratulate you on this holiday. This is not the first time I am doing it, I am doing it sincerely because I know and understand the way that military intelligence went in the course of all these years," Shoigu told officials with the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian General Staff on Thursday.

The minister said six Russian Tupolev Tu-22M3 long-range bombers had delivered new strikes on terrorists in Syria. "Before going here, I looked at the results. The main thing I thought was could we previously determine targets so precisely, without military intelligence, without the technical equipment that it now has?" Shoigu said.

"It is only a small part of the work that military intelligence is now doing," he said.
