Western Military District's operational strength greatly reinforced over 5 yrs - General Staff
MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The operational strength of the Western Military District has been significantly reinforced in the past five years, the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov said.
"A tank army command, three motorized rifle divisions and one tank division, two artillery brigades were set up," Gerasimov said at a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry's board on Tuesday.
A total of 185 aircraft and helicopters were supplied to the Air Force and the Air Defense troops, he said.
"The Baltic Fleet received 19 ships and attack craft, including the Stoikiy corvette, the Zeleny Dol and Serpukhov small missile ships equipped with the Kalibr missile complex. An army corps was formed in the Kaliningrad special area. The Bastion and Bal coastal defense missile systems entered service in the fleet's coastal troops," Gerasimov said.
A tank division, two motorized rifle brigades and one air defense missile brigade were set up in the Central Military District, he said.
