India extradites murder suspect to Russia

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - Indian authorities have extradited Russian citizen Ruslan Sayakhov, who is being charged with a murder committed in Ufa five years ago.

Sayakhov, accompanied by Interpol officials, Russian Interior Ministry officials and Russian Federal Penitentiary Service officials, was transported from India to Moscow on Tuesday to be prosecuted for murder, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office press service told Interfax.

According to information possessed by investigators, Sayakhov killed his acquaintance, a woman, for reasons of personal enmity in Ufa, Bashkortostan, in October 2012.

The Ufa Sovetsky District Court took the suspect into custody in absentia in February 2013. He was put on the Interpol wanted persons list in April 2013.

Sayakhov was detained in India on September 15, 2017. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office requested his extradition. The request was granted by the Indian authorities on October 27.
