Police lost 28 officers in line of duty in 2017 - interior minister

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - Twenty-eight police officers have been killed on duty in 2017, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said on Wednesday.

"Today is November 8, Day of Remembrance for employees of the Interior Ministry who died in the line of duty. This year, we are also sustaining losses: 28 officers have died. Your husbands, fathers, and children demonstrated themselves to be real men and true patriots, who fulfilled their duty till the end," Kolokoltsev said at a meeting with the families of the dead officers.

Their courage will doubtless set an example for future generations of police officers, he said.

"Looking after the families of our slain colleagues is a matter of honor for each one of us. Today, over 12,000 families bringing up almost 5,000 children are under the guardianship of the agency," Kolokoltsev said.

Giving a proper education to the children is essential, he said.
