Russia to join Europe's human trafficking convention 'sooner or later' - Kolokoltsev

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - The Interior Ministry is taking part in preparations for the signing of the Council of Europe (CoE) Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said.

"Currently the Interior Ministry, under the aegis of the Foreign Ministry, is involved in working through the issue regarding the prospects of signing the CoE convention concerning human trafficking," Kolokoltsev told State Duma on Wednesday.

"Such work is under way, and sooner or later we will complete conciliatory procedures and sign [the convention]," he said.

To say that Russian law-enforcement agencies are not managing to prevent human trafficking "would be wrong," Kolokoltsev said.
