Ukraine sends note to Belarus due to detention of Ukrainian plant director in Minsk

KYIV. Nov 20 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus has requested the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to clarify reasons and circumstances of the detention of a Ukrainian citizen, who is on a business trip in Belarus, Vasyl Kirilych, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's consular service department, said.

"The Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus sent a note to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry due to reports on the detention of a Ukrainian citizen, who has stayed there for business. The Embassy is asking to inform about reasons and circumstances of the detention and the Ukrainian citizen's incarceration conditions immediately," Kirilych told Interfax on Monday.

After the Ukrainian side receives a response, it would be able to confirm the Ukrainian citizen's detention, he said.

Earlier on Monday, Ukrainian online media LB.ua said citing a letter addressed to Ukrainian Ambassador in Belarus Ihor Kyzym that the Belarusian State Security Committee (KBG) had detained the director of the Zavod Utyazhelitelei (Weighting Agents Plant) PJSC from the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region.
