Council of CIS financial intelligence heads necessary, efficient - Putin

MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to the participants in the tenth meeting of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and congratulated them on the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Council.

"Over these years, the Council has proven itself to be a needed platform for discussing at a high professional level the whole range of pressing problems related to the prevention of the legalization of criminal income, funding for terrorism, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the search for optimal and efficient decisions to ensure regional and international security," Putin said in a congratulatory telegram published on the Kremlin website.

"I am convinced that stepping up joint efforts and expanding information and organizational interaction will have a positive effect on [our] rapid reaction to modern challenges and threats, and will facilitate the achievement of the goals that have been set," Putin said.
