Russia insists on UN aid delivery only with Damascus' approval

NEW YORK. Nov 29 (Interfax) - Russia is calling for an end to UN Security Council-sanctioned cross-border humanitarian aid deliveries to Syria without Damascus' consent.

"This mechanism, in its current form, cannot continue. It encroaches on Syria's sovereignty and runs counter to the principles of urgent humanitarian assistance agreed on by the UN General Assembly," Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said in the UN Security Council on Wednesday.

"It was once an unprecedented urgent measure, which today needs to be re-assessed," he said.
